Technically, and based on the current law, Medicare is reducing its reimbursement rates for physician services rend Pay Cut for Healthcare Professionals SGR fix, consequences and recommendations ered after March 31 by roughly 21.2% as of April 1st, 2015.  However, our opinion is that this is a simple bump on the road and that the Senate will repeal this bill once they come back from their “Spring Break”. The Senate shall be back by April 14. Based on this information we foresee two course of action:

  1. Continue to bill as usual. DO NOT ADJUST your fees to reflect the reduced rates.  Once the Senate approve the fix CMS will reprocess the claim at the adjusted rate.  This will result in more work for your staff but cash flow will not be interrupted.
  2. Hold you claims until after the fix has been approved.  This will affect your cash flow but will reduced the workload a reprocess of claims will create.
Of course there is always the possibility that they will uphold this reduction but we see this as a highly unlikely scenario.
